As I'm down with the sickness, soaking in the bath with an Eleven Hydrating Mask, it dawned on me 💡... my hair routine when I am ill.
Currently, congested that makes my ears ache. A headache that is piercing when vertical, sensitive eyes, sore throat & occasionally hot/cold sweats. Nasty vibes.
I've been worse in the past & one time I experienced matted hair due to no energy to brush, going to bed with wet hair in a messy bun. The hair recovery took patience & pain when brushing out (luckily not to Severe to be cut out) but I vowed to myself to do simple but effective ways to never allow my hair to get to that state when I am sick.
Pamperin' aint easy especially when sick!
Self care brings dopamine...dopamine acts as an important regulator of immune function. Booster of both is a must to assist in speedy recovery.
Here are 4 of my easy & effective hair remedies for sick days!
BRUSH
At least 1 brushing a day will keep the Matting away! Simpliest prevention!
If your partner/kid ask what they could do to take care of you, this is a definitely one to deligate.
It relaxes me when this selfcare task for done for me. It's a feel good vibe needed when feeling icky...get that dopamine!!!
MASK
When sickness hit we are more susceptible to dehydration which hair needs moisture to stay healthy. If you're dehydrated, your body will direct much-needed moisture to more critical functions, leaving your hair to fend for itself. Growth may slow or stop, & the hair shafts may become brittle & un-mane-tainable.
Do you bathe when your sick? I'd be soaking whair essential oils & lights off !!!
I find it an ideal time to do a hair Mask. 20 second mask application & let it process while soaking in a bath is easily achievable & your hair will be mane-tainable during the recovery.

OIL
Again, 20 second application is doable!
Oils play an important role in protecting hair from regular wear & tear. Protected it even more when sick.
Apply oil after your Hydrating mask to lock in moisture is a key component for healthy shielded hair.
If you apply oil to dehydrated hair...your locking in dryness. Oil isn't a moisture, it's a barrier sealant.
HOT TIP: if you prefer not to have wet hair during your sick days, applying a mositured based leave-in conditioner on dry hair mid-length/ends (brush for even product distribution) then layering OIL (brush again) is also beneficial for the hair & simply achievable when ill.
BRAID
When sickness hits, your give a shit is depleted. Messy buns are quick even with unbrushed hair but can cause havoc to your strands. Especially if your hair is wet. Hair stretches 50% when wet & when it's stretch in a messy wet bun/pony it dries to its stretched state which causes easily breakage when extra tension is applied (brushing/elastics) because their is no more flexibility/elasticity left...SNAP!
Braids are a protective styles.
The braid is stronger then the strand.
If your partner/kid is up for the task, deligate a simple braid after they brush your hair. Wins.
Ideally, braid after the hair is dried. Air dry cause aint no buddy got time to do a blowout. If you do, your magical. 😉👉👉
BUT, if you need to crash in your bed asap because that bath made you sleepy & if your like me, I like sleeping away my sickness...towel dry as much as you can. [Don't be vigorous to cause tangles/breakage]
Brush + Oil & do a looooooose braid; ties off with scrunchie. Psst, don't have to be fancy with your braid. Don't need to french it up, low & standard braid is sufficient.
